VIP 3 x 6' Giant Tri-Folding Exercise Mat Review

I was expecting an exercise mat that was a bit softer. Personal preference? I'd take a star away but that wouldn't be fair as the reason I'd steal a star is a personal one as opposed to a manufacture's design defect. The mat is both light and well made. The foam density is a bit lighter than high density, weight room floor matting but denser than spongy patio furniture pad foam.
For my male height (5'9") and weight (225#'s), the dimensions of the mat (3' x 6' x 2") are perfect. My elbows overhang two foot wide mats and a three foot wide mat works a treat. To catch sweat, I lay a long, soft, inexpensive, K-mart bath mat on top. This both insulates my body from the morning cold of the vinyl and helps gather up any sweat as bath mats are washable. All four sides of the mat edges are lined with Velcro strips so if one wishes, they can string additional mats together. The light mat, when folded, is easy to carry around if one needs to carry it from car trunk to exercise class. The mat is more than adequate to protect one's knees, elbows and back of head from any hard surface one might workout on.
As to the mat being harder than I expected, my concern is my old man tailbone being injured when doing hip stretches and sit-backs. That's not the mat's fault. Overall, I consider the mat to be an excellent, well made product in everything from packaging, to product design, to manufacturing quality. Time will tell how long this mat will last but my first impressions, it will last through many years of regular use.
