It does make the floor softer, so it gets 1 star. But it is very slippery. I am a yoga beginner, and it's very frustrating not to be able to learn poses correctly because my hands keep slipping. In Downward Dog I really feel I'm about to slip and fall just as I'm really getting my spine extended. Also, mine's only a week old or so, but still has an awful rubbery/plastic-y smell.
