Brand New Black/Burgundy Zabuton Zafu Set, Yoga, Meditation Seat Cushions, Kneeling, Sitting, Supporting Exercise Pratice Zabuton & Zafu Cushions. Review

I purchased this zabuton and zafu set for Zen Buddhist mediation. I read most positive reviews of this product and I decided to purchase it because of the price. The zabuton is very thick and provides great support. The zafu, however, is smaller than I expected. Expecting a slightly higher cushion, like the cylindrical zafus found in many zendos, I found that I could not maintain crossed-legged positions on this cushion because of its relatively low height. After a week or so of frustrating zazen sittings and many aching back muscles, I finally resorted to placing a small couch pillow underneath the zafu. The extra support has allowed me to sit in the half lotus. Now I am a beginner and not extraordinarily flexible, so perhaps more limber meditation practitioners won't have any problems with this zafu. But because I wanted a zafu similar to the heights of zafus at the zendos where I sit, I decided to purchase a different zafu all together. For a beginner like me, it was difficult to know what kind of zafu I would need and how best to accommodate my own particular physicality in mediation. If at all possible, I would suggest to potential customers to somehow try out other cushions first before making a purchase. While meditation is always a struggle mentally and physically, painful sittings are discouraging and can lead to much distraction, again, for this beginner.
